(GM), adsdsf, It Is Always Your Choice

Hi adsdsf,

The other day, I took a cab and had a very insightful
conversation with a most unusual cab driver.

After getting in the cab I noticed something very
different and strange. But first...

If you've ever taken a cab, then you'll know one
peculiar
thing about cab drivers. They tend to
usually be grumpy.

But this driver was unusually happy.

I asked him...

"Why are you so happy? Why are you so upbeat?"

And his reply? "Oh! I don't know. I just feel this way."

I asked him, why? And he thought about it.

The driver said, "I've got a great family. A great wife
and two sons. I've got this great job. And I get to drive
around town and meet all kinds of interesting people.
What's not to be happy about?"

Now... in the back of my mind I'm thinking, "... yeah, but
you're JUST a cab driver."

I said to him, "So you love your job and everything's great?"

He said, "Yeah! I'm just grateful and happy."

Ok. Then I asked him if he's always like this? And he said
he is like this pretty much everyday.

That's one of the interesting things I've learned about
life.

True wealth is not always about money. And yes... don't
get me wrong. Money's important. I enjoy making it. I enjoy
spending it. I enjoy investing it. I enjoy growing it. And
I enjoy giving it.

But all too often we let money dictate how we feel. And
also how we behave!

In other words, we let circumstances dictate how we feel.

As Tony Robbins said years ago, "Nothing has any meaning
except the meaning we give to it."

Look at the cab driver. He doesn't have a lot of money,
yet he's extremely happy almost ALL the time!

Isn't that interesting?

It has nothing to do with money, or circumstances. It has
everything to do with your attitude.

So what does that mean?

You can CHOOSE to feel happy at this moment. IF YOU WANT
TO!

You can choose to feel fulfilled and satisfied. You can
choose to feel energetic... IF you want to.

But many people choose to be sad. Many choose to feel
unenergetic, depressed, and unenthusiastic...

... because they CHOSE to be like that!

So remember... it's all a matter of choice.

Restaurant Industry Economic Data CONFIRMED…

Dear Affiliate,

Well this is the email that I said I was going to send you,
like I said this may be one of the most important emails you
read this year.

As we all know, it doesn't matter where you live in the
world we are now being touched by the global downturn and
with that comes employee layoffs and restaurant closures.
The latest data we have just received it is forecasted
that 9% of the restaurant and cafe industry businesses will
go BROKE before the year is out. That's 9%....

I couldn't consciously sit here and not do something to
help the industry after I received a chilling phone call
from a previous client who is now losing her restaurant,
car and home because she didn't "recession proof" her

(GM) adsdsf, 77% Of Managers Don’t Give Feedback To Their Staff

Hi adsdsf,

As a manager, one of the key skills is providing feedback
on staff performance.

How easy is it to give positive feedback, when someone
has performed a great job? Easy isn't it?

How easy is it to give constructive feedback, when
someone has performed badly? Hard? In fact, 77%
of managers don't; they shirk it.

Giving constructive feedback well is an art. Here are
some guidelines to help you develop that art ...

1. Keep the goal of feedback in mind.

Always remember that in giving constructive feedback,
the aim is to help the other person do a better job.

Improved performance on their part is the goal: constructive
feedback should serve the needs of the receiver not the giver.

2. Give positive feedback.

Describe something they are doing well. Positive behaviour
is reinforced when affirmed by others.

3. Don't avoid corrective feedback.

To learn from our mistakes we must first be made aware
of them. Corrective feedback given in a sensitive manner
is a powerful tool for development.

4. Focus on specific behaviour rather than traits.

Point out behaviour that they do well or could change,
rather than focussing on traits. Avoid using negative
labels such as 'lazy,' 'a slow learner,' 'incompetent,'
'manipulative,' and so forth. This is just name-calling
and creates a negative climate in the workplace. The
following statement deals with specific behaviours
rather than traits: "Your tone was harsh and you did
not give him a chance to reply to what you were saying."

5. Be specific.

Give specific situations or incidents when the behaviour
occurred.

6. Provide hints for better performance.

Once people have received feedback, they often know
how to change their behaviour. Sometimes, however,
if they agree with the feedback but do not know how
to change their behaviour, suggestions or hints on how
to improve performance are useful. These, too, should
be specific and clear.

7. Be concise.

Feedback that is both specific and brief is most helpful.
Long-winded feedback tends to be a waste of time.
Someone may need feedback on a number of points.
In this case, do not overload them with feedback.
Instead, give feedback on one or two points and
provide further feedback at a later date.

8. Make it a conversation.

When giving feedback it is important to be sensitive
towards the person receiving it. Check that the person
is ready to receive the feedback and be sensitive in
choosing the right location and environment.

Feedback is more effective if it takes place through a
dialogue between the giver and receiver. This gives the
receiver an opportunity to clarify what the feedback giver
means and perhaps ask for suggestions. A dialogue helps the
receiver better "own" the feedback.

Having shared your feedback, check that the person has
understood what you have said and why you have said it,
dealing with any negative feelings if they have arisen.

Agree any actions that are required as a consequence of
the feedback, but remember, it is the receiver's choice
as to whether they accept your feedback or not.

As a Manager, you cannot shirk the responsibility of
providing constructive feedback.

Don't be included in the 77%.

Other staff will see that you are shirking one of your
responsibilities and you will lose respect.

Sometimes It's Not What You Know But Who You Know That Matters


The difference between 'getting by' at work and having a

successful career is not solely dependent on technical skills or

knowledge.


We all know colleagues who have strong 'people skills' and not the

strongest technical abilities but who nonetheless possess a distinct

position of leverage or influence at work.


These individuals are focusing on their strengths and use the power

of interpersonal skills and networking to their advantage.


If you want to climb the career ladder, you should too! And you can.

One should never underestimate the power of influence gained

through networking. The expansiveness and quality of one's social

and professional networks can significantly enhance career potential.


How can one go about building a supportive network?


This article will explore two practical and simple ways that, when

used strategically will yield the results you want to achieve.

The first things to do are collect and organise the business cards

from the people you meet so that you have their contact information.


Obviously collecting cards is just the first step.


Find reasons to send contacts an email, call for advice or to give

some information related to their interests. Don't do so incessantly,

but regularly - once a week or biweekly is appropriate. It generally

depends on the significance of your reason to contact them and

their past receptiveness.

facilitate the discussion yourself or bring in a speaker.


You could arrange such meetings at a local coffee shop or

restaurant - many will set aside a meeting room upon request.


On the invitation - whether it be by email, fax or regular mail -

outline the proposed agenda and indicate that 'coffee or tea is

provided - other menu items are at the cost of participants" -

unless of course you are able and willing to cover the entire bill!


This can be a relatively low-cost way of meeting with contacts and

sharing ideas.

This intentional way of meeting your contacts on a regular basis

strengthens not only the relationship you have with each of them,

but also allows for your contacts to meet one another - an

opportunity for which they will be grateful.


Such efforts are similar to making an investment that you hope

will grow at the opportune time.

These two ways of building your network - regularly connecting

with contacts and organising meetings or discussion forums

are simple yet effective career-enhancers.
